The quilt I made for Mother's Day was put in to use straight away and has been given the kitty seal of approval, but they were not so approving of having their photos taken.

Spring giveaway winner
Thank you for such a great response to my first giveaway. I've picked a winner using a very low tech method involving folded pieces of paper and can announce that the winner is ...
Sewing (and Snowing) for Pleasure at the NEC
I was a lucky winner of tickets for the Sewing for Pleasure show from Angel Eden. I've been to this show in previous years, but this year's visit was to be a little different. Previously I visited on a Saturday with members of the Liverpool Sewing Club, but due to holiday commitments this year I went on a Friday with my husband. Rather than being an all day visit with time to fit in some workshops and talks, this visit was a whistle-stop shopping trip.
The show was certainly quieter this time, but I don't know if that was due to it being a week day or due to the snowy weather. I also thought there were fewer stalls, but without cross-checking the exhibitor list, I can't be sure. Certainly it was easier to look at the stalls and get to the fabric. Being in Liverpool, I am spoilt when it comes to fabric as I work a few minutes from the Liverpool Abakhan shop, so at shows I tend to focus on supplies that I would normally get by mail order and look out for special show bargains.

Spring giveaway
This giveaway is now closed.
To celebrate the start of this blog and hopefully the start of spring, though the UK weather seems to think it is still winter, I’ve decided to have a giveaway. I’ve put together a selection of items with a spring theme which you can win by following this blog. I’ve tried to include as many spring things as I could think of – chicks, lambs, flowers, bunnies, etc – I’ve even managed to sneak in a little bit of chocolate.

Patchwork projects from last year
Well, I think it’s time I posted about my sewing. I started patchwork
and quilting last year, but have not been very prolific and you can count my
completed projects on the fingers of one hand. I’m very good at buying fabric,
it is just getting round to using the fabric that seems to the problem.

What do you call someone who sews?
I’ve struggled to find a term that I like when
it comes to telling people that I sew. The obvious word is sewer, which is fine when
spoken but can create problems when written. Unless you add a hyphen (sew-er)
you run the risk of readers thinking you are an artificial watercourse. Seamstress or needlewoman is rather dated and sewist just doesn’t appeal to me. However, recently I have
come across a couple of new terms that I hope will gain in popularity.
